20 Days of WoW Blogging: Why I Decided to Start a Blog

Day 2’s question asks why you decided to start a blog, I’m assuming related to Warcraft.

Since high school I’ve always had some sort of presence on the web. I want to say it began with random message boards for band fan sites, but I know for sure it was chatting on IRC and AOL. Nothing too crazy, just chatting with random people here and there and the occasional meet up and kegger. As I got to college online journaling became the rage through websites like Angelfire, Diary Land and Livejournal. I used everyone of them to log the angst filled days of my teenage life and but to actually own a domain back then was rare but not unheard of.

I don’t know how I met her but I got approached by a girl that owned the website Chickenlegs.net around my junior year in college. At this point the whole E/N, or everything/nothing, genre was all the rage as well as cam girl sites such as Jennicam. She ran a website made up of all female bloggers, blogging about random topics and we had a webcam portal that linked to everyone’s websites. I don’t know how we did it but we were one of the most popular E/N blogs at the time writing about nothing and being showered with gifts from all ends of the world. I also ran my own personal blog at Veracious.org which was kind of my own “thing” separate from the Chickenlegs girls. It was interesting but at the same time a little.. odd. I hung around with the girls for a bit until basketball and college became a little overwhelming in itself and soon after stepped down because some dudes just got a little too close for comfort to the tune of showing up at my basketball games uninvited.

After college, I just kept my Livejournal active and let my domain expire mostly out of uncertainty. It was my intent to go overseas to play basketball but my parents were in the middle of a divorce and I decided to stay home and get a “big kid” job. I met a few friends that I still have today and also got into my current guild via the WoW-ladies community there.

So I guess all in all, starting a blog wasn’t too big of a leap for me. I’ve always had some sort of means to express myself on the internet except now its more focused towards my hobbies rather than making blog posts about my day, begging for gifts or LOL’ing about the penis pictures some dude sent me. Guys, seriously stop doing that!

And that’s why I decided to start (another) blog!

20 Days of WoW Blogging: Out With the Old

The new year brings about change for everyone. Well, at least a humble attempt at it. Whether it’s the old, “I’m gonna lose weight” resolve or just to be a better person in general, the first few months of the new year are for lack of better words, interesting. I’m not a huge fan of resolutions but one of my personal intentions is to blog more and be more social online and off.

So as the list goes, online will begin with an introduction.

I’m a 32 year-old, dark skinned, chickadee named Alyssa but most of my WoW peeps refer to me as Fay. I’m currently residing and native to San Diego, California and have been here pretty much all my life minus a four year stint in Eugene, Oregon to live out my basketball dreams at the University of Oregon. And yes, I’m tall. Very tall. See: 6’3″ I don’t really play much any more other than shooting around here and there but I still stay pretty active because its also my job as a Personal Trainer. I see you scratching your head! An ex-collegiate, personal training… nerd? I’ve been in doing the gym thing for 8 years now and while I love what I do, I’m ready for a change in that area as well. Ultimately, I’d like to end up in the video game industry as a Community Manager and I’m slowly worming my way there. Also worked quite a bit of retail part-time through the years to supplement the fact that California is really damn expensive and I like stuff and having a sense of monetary security.

I’m not very artistic, I can’t sing but I can shake my booty pretty well. If I was about a foot shorter I’d probably go back to the dance classes I took as a kid which made me not as awkward as my other Amazonian sisters. Its not that I’m old, its just a 70-something inch wing span is kinda hard to manage. Outside of Warcraft, I dabble in whatever games are looking pretty interesting on Steam and play Farmville via Facebook. If not doing that, I usually have my nose in a book. I took HUGE advantage of Borders going out of sale last summer and bought pretty much every novel I’d been anticipating reading. I’m currently reading the Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton.

I love.. love.. love.. lovelovelovelovelove music. And most every genre as well. The Foo Fighter’s new album is currently rocking my world but I can go from Gangsta Rap and Erykah Badu to Jimi Hindrix to Taylor Swift in the blink of an eye. And yeah, I’ll sing all that mess at the top of my lungs in the shower and my car and not give two pennies what you think!

I try to dabble in baking here and there, but I try to eat Paleo as much as possible. Yep, I try to eat like a little cavegirl. Meat, fruits and nuts for me! Its difficult because I do have a sweet tooth on occasion and when those occasions rise, I take complete and total advantage of them. I can’t be super militant or a fan girl. Never been a fan of the idea of shoving what you believe down someone’s throat based on a trend or what have you. People are gonna do whatever they want to and I’d rather not waste my breath in convincing them otherwise 🙂 But overall, eating this way makes my body run a little better and I don’t feel so lethargic.

I also like really cute stuff, gel pens, notebooks, graffiti art and collect urban art. See: Kidrobot. I have for years now and my old apartment had Dunny everywhere and I really wish I’d kept a picture of it because it was so.. me! So I’m warning wherever I’m employed this year as a Community Manager, you will see a crazy rabbit army in my workspace. And a few pieces of work that I’ve managed to hold onto between moves. You’ll love it, promise!

Other than that, I’m just a jeans and t-shirt kinda girl with a dash of sass and snark. I can also be a little impatient/stubborn and can NOT tolerate indecisive people which oftentimes leads me to doing stuff on my own. I’m working on the impatient bit but I don’t mind doing stuff by myself at all. There’s nothing stereotypically “SoCal” about me and I play video games. I don’t find myself particularly interesting but I have a flock of friends that loves me to death. And I love them too!

You can also read more about me growing up here. And about my Warcraft Army here.
